Taicang Port as a key port of the Shanghai International Shipping Center is an important item of the Yangtze ports layout construction and development section in the 11th National Five-Year Development Plan. The geographical advantages of Taicang Port as a deep-water port in the lower reaches of Yangtze River, the developed hinterland in Yangtze River Delta as well as Taicang port ‘s role as one of the two wings of Shanghai International Shipping Center enable TICT to develop into a modern international container port.

Operation
Since opening, TICT’s throughput volume has been increasing gradually. With its fast growth, the container throughput has broken 600,000 TEUs in 2006.  Nowadays, Taicang Port has developed into an important port for steel transshipment along Yangtze River as well as the largest Russian timber base in eastern China.
